Why Advertising Your Online Business on Craigslist Is a No Brainer

Craigslist provides a valuable opportunity for just about any business offering products or services. Along with physical products, Craigslist offers a platform to advertise your e-commerce websites at no cost directly to its huge customer base right in your area.

Let’s have a look at why advertising is truly a no brainer:

  • Advertise for Free on Craigslist!

Unlike other advertising opportunities there is virtually no risk involved in posting on Craigslist. The only postings that require a fee are for jobs and housing. For all other advertising the only requirement is to agree to the Craigslist terms of service and to follow their posting guidelines.

As there is no financial obligation to the Craigslist advertiser, there are no minimum sales quotas.

  • Reach Millions of Hungry Shoppers on Craigslist

Craigslist reaches a large audience of targeted customers. The Craigslist fact sheet reveals pertinent information regarding the amount of traffic the website receives.

An average month brings approximately four billion page viewers and over ten million subscribers per month to Craigslist. Those are impressive statistics demonstrating that advertising on Craiglist reaches a multitude of potential clients.

With so many visitors using Craigslist every month your advertising potential is limitless. However, there is no guarantee that any of these visitors will be interested in your products or services.

  • Find Customers interested in your products on Craigslist

Although the Craigslist audience is huge, the key to taking advantage of it is to target your advertising to specific searchers hungry for your product.

Like any form of marketing, in order to get optimal exposure and click-throughs, it is important to post intriguing, keyword rich, and informative ads on Craigslist. They need to stand out from the rest for maximal exposure to your target audience. Those interested in your products or services are your target audience.

  • Reach your target audience on Craigslist

The key to reaching your target audience is placing your advertisement in the most appropriate locations.

The beauty of Craigslist is that it has a specific section for businesses to advertise their services. This section is broken down into a number of categories. An ad for health related products, for example, should be placed in the section designated for that.

If you cannot find a section specific to your products or services, you could consider placing an ad in the Small Business section or in a general, broader section. You can also contact Craigslist to suggest the addition of a new category. They may consider adding a new category, if there is sufficient demand for it.

Certain products and services can also be advertised in more than one section. This is acceptable as long as you do not spam.

Be mindful that, although advertising on Craigslist is easy, economical and lucrative, spamming is not! If you do not adhere to the Craigslist Terms and Conditions you stand the chance of being blacklisted permanently! Placing the same advertisement in multiple sections and/or geographical regions in Craigslist is considered spam. Spamming is unproductive and unprofessional.

Understanding PPC (Pay Per Click) And CPC (Cost Per Click)

Most SEO companies can provide a number of monthly management plans for clients and customers wanting to pass on to us the management of their pay per click advertising, so no matter what your budget is, they can help you complete and achieve all of your goals and objectives and make your campaigns more efficient and effective.

What Is Pay Per Click?

Pay Per Click is the process of paying for every click you receive from a search engine, using their Sponsored Results, normally at the top of the search or to the top right hand side.

10% of clicks on a search engine are currently reported to be users clicking on the Pay Per Click results, so for every 100 searches and click throughs, 10 people will use the sponsored results, rather than the natural results.

For example, run a search for Washing Machines in Google.

The search results will have a light orange box at the top, with two or three results in, and then on the right hand side you will see a list of adverts, normally 7 or 10 to a page.

These are the Sponsored Results, and depending how much you bid for on a keyword, this is where your results would appear. The more you bid, the higher you rank.

PPC is an effective way of getting traffic to your website in the early months of it being live, and also a valuable marketing tool throughout the life span of the website. Just as you would probably pay for an advert in the news paper, you really should think about online advertising, and PPC is one of the most effective, as you control how much you spend and how you spend it.

Why Should I Pay For Traffic?

PPC is part or could be part of any online marketing or advertising. Most people spend money when it comes to offline advertising and the reason for doing this is obvious, increased exposure and therefore increased enquiries and sales.

PPC is not really any different. You are paying to get more exposure against thousands of other people doing the same. The nice thing with PPC is there are thousands of words and alternatives to any main keyword and you can assign the budget, and you can still get good results from being on the second or third page of the sponsored results.

If you are competing against thousands of others doing the same thing or offering the same service, or your site is quite new and still being indexed and dancing in the search engines, PPC is still an efficient and cost effective measure of driving traffic to you site. Many of the biggest companies in the world assign a PPC budget, as it really can be a useful measure to increase visits and sales, and we can help to make sure you get the best results, no matter what your budget is.
